Marc Metamorphosis Ice Bucket
Date: 2016
Location: DesignMiami/
Materials: 3D-Printed Chardonnay Grape Skins
Client: Perrier-Jouët
Description: As part of the Strand Garden installation at DesignMiami/ 2016, Matsys created the Marc Metamorphosis ice bucket. The conceptual goal of the piece was to surround the liquid essence of the grape (the champagne) with the solid essence of the grape (the pomace that is a by-product of the wine-making process). This pomace is dried and ground into a powder before 3D-printed. As the printer was smaller than the desired ice bucket dimensions, the piece had to be printed in eight interlocking parts.
